Tyco electronics announcing:  changes to the TMS-WM wrap around marker range that now bring it in line with RoHS legislation.

Previously the TMS-WM product range was manufactured from a compound which did not meet the requirements of the new European legislation controlling the sale of goods which contain certain hazardous substances. This legislation is known as Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). The legislation came into effect in June 2006.

In order to meet the requirements of RoHS, Tyco has changed the compound used to manufacture the TMS-WM label during the last and all its future manufacturing runs. The two adhesives used on the product line remain unchanged.

Tyco Electronics has introduced Raychem brand MIL-DTL-24640 lightweight shipboard cables. The new cables are qualified on a number of DOD slash sheets contained in the MIL-DTL-24640 specification and meet the rigorous requirements of flame, smoke emissions, halogen content and severe water blocking requirements. One of the main advancements with the new Raychem cable is the use of water swellable tapes and yarns to block the ingress of water. Legacy cable following MIL-DTL-24640 typically use silicone water block methods which have lesser flexibility and handling attributes. MIL-DTL-24640 cables are typically used on military marine craft and are applied in communication systems, control and instrumentation electronics as well as power and signal transmission.

By using water swellable tape and yarn, the cable is kept dry which allows for cleaner and faster handling compared to silicone water blocking methods. In addition to the range of cables called out on the specification, Tyco Electronics is able to design custom lightweight marine cables using the MIL-DTL-24640 qualified jacket. Cable design specialists at Tyco Electronics are able to create cable configurations that exactly meet the number of circuits required for an application and also optimize the cable braid design.

MIL-DTL-24640 cables are RoHS compliant.
